Flood Protection System Wittenberge - BT-Spannschloss® and RubberElast®

The high water level posed a special challenge in Wittenberge. This problem was solved with a combination of BT-Spannschloss® and RubberElast® for a flood protection system.

In 2012, an approx. 1,500 metres long flood protection wall was erected in Wittenberge in Brandenburg to protect an industrial area. It did not take a long time to test this wall as the level of the tributaries of the Elbe river rose again rapidly in the following year. The flood protection wall fulfilled its purpose and the flood protection system remained intact as expected.

BT-Flood Protection System

The patented flood protection system consists of a dry connection for precast concrete elements (solid flood protection walls), the BT-Spannschloss® and the RubberElast® crushing joint tape. During assembly, the RubberElast® is affixed to the element. It is applied by light pressure, without primer or other preparatory work. After removing the protective tape, the adjacent element is placed. With the BT-Spannschloss® it is connected and aligned while the sealing tape is highly compressed. The resulting joint is thus permanently sealed against the penetration of water. With a BT-Spannschloss® connection, a joint grouting is not necessary. The construction can be loaded immediately after bolting. In addition, the assembly can also be accomplished in cold temperatures or with precipitation. The RubberElast® sealing tape can also be installed in unfavourable weather conditions down to -10°C. With this convenient flood protection system, up to 50 meters of flood protection walls can be erected in just one day. The advantages of this prefabricated construction are obvious: weather-independent prefabrication, fast assembly and visual design options.
