New BT formwork technology for element factory in Ylitornio - the experience has been consistently positive
The introduction of formwork technology from B.T. Innovation reduces the cost of manufacturing precast formwork. YBT Oy, a manufacturer of precast concrete elements, also discovered this when it introduced the mold technology at its plant in Ylitornio. Muottikolmio originally supplied the molds for YBT’s shell concrete slab line, but they are now also used in other precast productions. YBT was supplied with 148 mm steel molds and magnets for the 32 m long shell concrete slab line.
“Commissioning was easy. Anssi Kosonen from Muottikolmio Oy was on site beforehand to demonstrate the product, so we knew exactly what we were buying. In addition, the molding technology was tested in our own factory before we decided to buy it,” says Mika Alapuranen, one of the owners of YBT Oy.
The use of formwork technology is environmentally friendly and cost-effective
The formwork technology does not require as much wood as wooden formwork. In addition, safety is increased as the material required for timber products does not need to be sawn as much.
“We are very satisfied with the formwork technology. It has enabled us to significantly reduce the amount of wood and wood waste to be disposed of and to increase safety in use. In addition, the molds made with formwork technology last longer than those made of wood, which cannot be reused as often,” comments Mika Alapuranen.

The products are of high quality and are a good way to reduce the need for wood in the molding process, thereby increasing efficiency and environmental friendliness. The product also takes up less space on the element table as the magnets are surprisingly narrow. The challenge is the high turnover rate of the elements. YBT Oy is a family business with long roots. The family’s roots in concrete construction go back to 1958 and YBT was founded in 1992. Today, the third generation of the family is already involved in the company. The company manufactures precast concrete parts and supplies them to Finland, Sweden and Norway.
